Hyundai is playing around with dual-view LCD technology for its future vehicles, allowing the driver and front seat passenger to view different video from one centrally mounted LCD display.

While the driver can check out the GPS map, the passenger can catch up with The Simpsons, the radio menu or DVD movies. The video seen depends on the viewing angle and there’s little chance of crashing unless the driver leans over to check out that latest Beyonce video.

The technology is starting to appear in a very small number of consumer displays now but so far very few car makers have taken it onboard. Of course, General Motors and Sharp have been talking about it since 2005 but we’re still waiting to see it ship.

Hyundai will be putting it in its Grandeur saloons first.-Martin Lynch
