Philips is pushing another version of its interactive light technology with a massive interactive wall that allows people to paint with light.

The 'Imagination Light Canvas' measures 14 x 6-feet and contains 1,420 LED lights activated by touchscreen technology. By using your hands you can animate any area and ‘paint with light’, albeit in blocky shapes. Still, it is interesting and continues Philips’ innovation with the use of ambient light to create new visual experiences – akin to those in its very desirable AmbiLight and new Aurea TVs.

The light images created by your hands remain for a few minutes before disappearing and the canvas can cope with six people – mainly kids – painting at one time.

And before the eco-corner starts having a fit, the whole wall only consumes as much power as a toaster. It’s been installed in the Women & Children’s area of a US hospital now and is proving a big hit.

Paul Zeven, CEO of Philips Electronics North America, said: “We created the Imagination Light Canvas specifically for the Women’s and Children’s waiting room of the new hospital to lessen the tension, anxiety and stress that families often experience when waiting for child birth.”

Just don’t expect the to see it in your local NHS waiting room anytime soon.-Martin Lynch
