Here’s a turn-up for the books: a USB turntable from Sony. Usually, they are some no-name rubbish or decent efforts from the likes of Ion.

The PS-LX300USB is no looker but it’s about to go on sale in the US first for around £75.

It’s a belt-driven turntable – to reduce motor noise and improve stability apparently – that will rip your vinyl into digital format for transfer to a PC or an MP3 player. It comes bundled with the Sound Forge Audio Studio software which should make it easy enough to archive that vinyl collection on your PC and even tweak the sound.

The sexily named PS-LX300USB will also act as a regular turntable, running at 33-1/3rpm and 45rpm, once you hook it up to your existing hi-fi speakers.-Martin Lynch
