Hauppauge is well-known for its TV cards for PCs and laptops but now it’s launched its first portable media player (PMP) at the CeBIT 2008 show.

Hauppauge pMP.jpg

Dubbed the Hauppauge pMP, it sports a 3.5in screen with a decent 320 x 240 pixel resolution and comes with the added bonus of Freeview onboard for picking up all those free digital TV channels while out and about. It also has an EPG and text functions.

The player measures 12 x 7.8 x 2cm, weighs 200g and the rechargeable Lithium-ion battery is good for a claimed 4 hours. It supports MP3 and WAV audio files, along with video formats like MPEG4 ASP, XviD, and DivX 4.0/5.0. There’s no internal storage, so make sure you stock up on those SD and MMC cards.

"Portable media is becoming more widespread, and Hauppauge has added the dimension of live TV to the mix with its new pMP," said Yehia Oweiss, Hauppauge Digital's Vice President of Sales EMEA. "This is a highly portable device that will allow customers to break free of the TV at home and watch live or recorded programmes wherever they are."

The addition of Freeview to the Hauppauge pMP is a nice touch and, while it may not win any fashion contests, you can’t really complain when all you’ll be paying from April is around £115.-Martin Lynch
