blu-ray player.jpg Anyone hoping for a price crash on Blu-ray players now that the high-def movie format war is over can think again.

According to Stan Glasgow, Sony Electronics CEO, there’s not going to be a $200 player [that’s about £200 to us folks] until at least next year.

"I don't think $200 is going to happen this year. Next year $200 could happen. We'll be at a $300 rate this year. $299 will happen this year."

Sony launched some new, cheaper players recently but, as usual with dedicated Blu-ray players, the prices put them outside the mainstream market.

If you are going to go Blu, then go for the PS3 because the Blu-ray player is great and it’s one of the very few players out now that’s future-proofed against upgrades of the Blu-ray specification – namely 1.1 and the forthcoming 2.0.

Oh yeah, you also get a games console and media streamer thrown in for the price.-Martin Lynch
