Microsoft is about to make the Xbox 360 the cheapest console on the block by slashing the European prices later today.

The entry-level Xbox 360 Arcade was spotted this morning on Amazon UK for £149.99, down £40 on its usual price of nearly £190. Also listed was the Xbox 360 Premium and Xbox 360 Elite at the new price points of £190 and £250, down from £250 and £290, respectively.

Since this morning though, Amazon’s prices have reverted to normal, which points to the group cheekily jumping the gun before the official Microsoft announcement, which is expected to happen before the day is out.

If the price points are correct – and the evidence [in German] so far points that way – then the £150 Xbox Arcade [the one with no HDD] is even cheaper than the Nintendo Wii, which costs £180. So far, Microsoft estimates that the Xbox 360 has sold 18 million units.

In relation to the PS3, which retails for £285 for the 40GB version, the 120GB 360 Elite will now come in £35 cheaper.

That said, for the extra £35 you get that sexy Blu-ray drive in the PS3. More as it arrives.-Martin Lynch

I think they should give it for free. Cuz Microsoft releases a new console every christmas.

They lost the Blue-ray battle anyway, and they charge you for the Xbox live.. Which should be free!!

@aymkam...
yeah, right. All companies should feel happy to spend millions on developing and marketing products and then give it all away for free. Right on man.
I'll smoke what ever you're having.

the reason live works is because its paid for, do you think servers and bandwidth are free?? personally i paid £28 for a years gold live, just over £2 a month, thats cheap in my eyes, and yes ive owned a ps3, lovely machine lacking in games right now and the ps store is garbage and online/xmb cant hold a light to the xbox's blade system. id be tempted to get an elite at those prices.

Ok, great. Now get Blu-Ray in there and sell it for the same price and you might just pull the XPux out of the PS3 smoke trail.

PS3 smoke trail? Is that the one it is leaving as it crashes and burns?

Microsoft is reducing prices of xbox because they need to sell out the models without blu-ray drive. After they had accomplished that they will introduce a 'new' model equipped with blu-ray drive.

Damn just after mine blew at christmas and I traded in all my games a week ago!
Still until the overheating issue is resolved I don't think I'll get another 360.
On the plus side, might force sony into a price drop. Think their sales only went up because of wii supply issues.

I have got through 19 360 units due to various failures but I still love it and xbox live is unbeatable .. i had a ps3 and got rid of it a couple of months later. Worth it just for the gta 4 extra content alone

19! Thats one every 1-2 months isn't it - assuming you bought at launch? Some great games and content but it breaks far too easy.
