beatles.jpg Apple is denying reports that it has finalised a massive deal to buyout the Beatles back catalogue for iTunes.

That doesn’t mean it won’t happen, just not right now – that’s the corporate line anyhow and we all know that companies never, ever lie. Some companies hate having their news broken for them, so don’t be surprised if there’s a denial this morning and an ‘official’ confirmation this afternoon.

"This is not news nor is it a scoop," an Apple spokesman told Billboard yesterday.

Last year, Sir Paul McCartney said a deal was due in 2008:

“It's all happening soon. Most of us are all sort of ready. The whole thing is primed, ready to go - there's just maybe one little sticking point left, and I think it's being cleared up as we speak, so it shouldn't be too long. It's down to fine-tuning, but I'm pretty sure it'll be happening next year, 2008.”

Either way, iTunes users will have to wait that little bit longer to pay for digital Beatles tunes they’ve already bought before.-Martin Lynch
