Asus, makers of the popular Eee laptop, wants us all to consider a greener IT purchase by unveiling its concept laptops and PCs made from bamboo. Not the first material you’d consider using but Asus says it’s fine, green and safe to EC standards.
They cropped up at the latest CeBIT 2008 event and attracted lots of appreciative glances as well a share of scepticism over whether they’ll actually make it into mainstream production.
They have been knocking about the media circuit since last year but Asus seems determined that it will bring us bamboo kit. The company claims that they will enter production this summer and we’ll see eco-friendly products in time for Christmas.
Right now they consist of the U6 and S6 notebooks, LS201 display and Essentio 5110 desktop PC. They sure are pretty though. See a close-up of the sexy bamboo laptop after the jump. -Martin Lynch

It's ironic that chopping down trees to turn into laptops is a better way of saving our planet than using plastics. But if it works for you...
@ Tom Cressey :
It's bamboo, it's not a tree, it's grass. Also, nothing grows faster than bamboo. Just make sure you don't spill water on it as you might end up with a desktop!
In 2008, an office made entirely out of wood may yet be a step too much. However, here is what it might look like:
