Despite rumours - and the fervent hopes of many console gamers - that Microsoft was planning a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360, a senior Microsoft executive has popped the bubble.

Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's Group Marketing Manager, has said in an interview that Microsoft will not be producing any Blu-flavoured Xbox hardware. None. Zip. He said:

eBay has sold a lot of wacky stuff in its time but it’s really outdoing itself today with the sale of a 3 million year old mammoth.

Or at least the almost complete skeleton remains of a Mastodon, a massive cousin of the woolly mammoth, unearthed towards the end of the 1990s on Rustler Ranch in North Eastern California. It was originally discovered by a ranch hand who found a tooth sticking out from a stream bank and dug it out thinking it might be an arrowhead.

InFocus has more projector awards that you can shake a stick at and it’s hoping to continue its good run in the home cinema market with its latest Full HD 1080p offering.

The IN83 looks exactly like its IN82 predecessor but boasts an overhaul under the hood, most noticeably by using the latest DLP DarkChip4 technology with BrilliantColor from Texas Instruments.

Part of the InFocus Play Big line-up, the IN83 has an improved native 5,000:1 contrast ratio (scalable to 15,000:1). The brightness ranges from 1400-1600 ANSI Lumens, which the company claims is enough to watch a movie even in ambient daylight. As a home cinema enthusiast, I’d recommend keeping all light out, just to get the best from it, or any other, projector.

The Duo-i promises great, room-filling sound thanks to two 3.5in drive units in ported individual enclosures and the whole thing is housed in a curved, moulded self-damping ABS cabinet. The Duo-i uses Boston’s BassTrac to deliver “clean sound at all levels” and the company says that all of the circuitry used is the same quality as that found its pricey hi-fi kit. Boston claims the radio will pick up weak FM stations and present them clearly.

mpman.jpg We take them for granted now but MP3 players were once very new indeed and it’s hard to believe that this month marks the 10th birthday of the first commercially available player, the MPMan F10 [pictured].

Created by Saehan Information Systems in Korea, it was launched in March 1998 and came with just 32MB of memory, making it good for just 8-10 songs. Heady stuff indeed. Read on.
