bostona-duo-i-ipod-chili-r1.jpg Audio specialists, Boston Acoustics, has dipped its toe into the shark-infested iPod pond with its first stereo dock.

The Duo-i promises great, room-filling sound thanks to two 3.5in drive units in ported individual enclosures and the whole thing is housed in a curved, moulded self-damping ABS cabinet. The Duo-i uses Boston’s BassTrac to deliver “clean sound at all levels” and the company says that all of the circuitry used is the same quality as that found its pricey hi-fi kit. Boston claims the radio will pick up weak FM stations and present them clearly.

It offers iPod docking with video-out and charging – all except Shuffles, that is – and it will play video from iPhones as well as older iPod Classics. In terms of features, there are dual-alarms and, thankfully, a 360-degree snooze bar that runs around the front so you can touch it anywhere to shut it up early in the morning.

There’s a large LCD display with variable backlight and 10 FM and 5 AM presets. For the not insignificant £170 price tag, you get the black or white dock with matching grilles and remote control. If that’s too boring, you’ll have to cough up £15 for optional grilles in the following colours: Chilli Pepper Red, Glacier Blue, Rosebud Pink and Spanish Moss Green.-Martin Lynch
