Despite rumours - and the fervent hopes of many console gamers - that Microsoft was planning a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360, a senior Microsoft executive has popped the bubble.

Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's Group Marketing Manager, has said in an interview that Microsoft will not be producing any Blu-flavoured Xbox hardware. None. Zip. He said:

“Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience.”

That flies in the face of what Sony Corp’s US president, Stan Glasgow, just said a few days ago, so now it’s one of those “Which one of them is a lying scumbag?” situations.

Ridiculous. It could swing either way. If they are planning on releasing Blu-Ray hardware, even discussing releasing it, WHY keep it a secret? And if they're NOT discussing Blu-Ray hardware for the 360, WHY is someone telling us that there's talks going on? What an absolutely pointless farse this is going to continue to be. This 'will they/won't they' crap with lead us right into next year I'm speculating.

Just buy a PS3. at least you know what you're getting. I think this is going to cost them buyers...

I love being in a shop when someone next to me buys a xBox. I suppose i have a duty to warn them, but i tend to keep that to myself and watch as they throw their money out the window.
Idiots!

Seems like Microsoft might want to re-evaluate their thoughts on 'what consumers want'. When Toshiba announced that they cancelled their HD DVD business on 19 Feb, interest in the PS3 shot up 36% on PriceRunner.co.uk compared to a couple days before. Seems like people are more interested in Blu Ray now that the war is over…

It doesn't matter that the 360 may never have the BluRay drive built in. They dont Need it, If they continue to provide their Live customers with HD over I.P. As a fan of BluRay its a shame that it will fail anyway, the only reason HDDVD came out and was so heavily backed by Microsoft is to try to put doubt into the minds of people looking for a HD format and it did exectly that hence the HD format wars! The next step into HD is .... u guesed it HD content over I.P. Hmmm sounds familliar arnt Xbox live doing so already? So in about 4-6 years BluRay will be dead Mark my words & all HD content will be available over I.P.

PS3 has nothing convincing going for it until GT5 comes out.

Few other exclusives to tempt buyers.

The 360 is still the system to beat for gamers and with HD movies over the interWeb, you don't need to rent or buy a plastic disk with a Blu-Ray logo on it.

Add to that the 360's superb Media-Centre integration - and I know which camp I'm happiest in... especially with Gears Of War 2 to keep me warm this winter!
