Manhunt 2 Wins UK Release - Again March 16, 2008

The controversial slasher game, Manhunt 2, has finally managed to win a UK release after the Video Appeals Committee (VAC) overturned a previous ban by the BBFC.

The game had been given a green light by the VAC already but it was appealed by the BBFC, so everything ground to a halt. The BBFC had previously banned the game - the first one in 10 years.

Now, however, the VAC has upheld its earlier decision and the BBFC has no choice but to grant the game an ‘18’ rating.

A clearly unhappy David Cooke, Director of the BBFC, commented:

“As I have said previously, we never take rejection decisions lightly, and they always involve a complex balance of considerations. We twice rejected Manhunt 2, and then pursued a judicial review challenge, because we considered, after exceptionally thorough examination, that it posed a real potential harm risk.

However, the Video Appeals Committee has again exercised its independent scrutiny. It is now clear, in the light of this decision, and our legal advice, that we have no alternative but to issue an ‘18’ certificate to the game.”
