sharp d44e aquos.jpg Sharp has rolled out three new LCD TVs designed to make it affordable for anyone to get in on the HDTV act without breaking the bank.

The AQUOS D44E series comprises 26in, 32in and 37in models, with resolutions of 1,366 x 768 pixels [good for 720p and 1080i video] and a decent claimed contrast ratio of 10,000:1. The series come wrapped in lacquer piano black or a “new silver-grey colour design”.

The TVs feature Quick Shoot technology to reduce blurring for fast-moving images and brightness for all models is rated at 470-500 candelas per square metre. The TVs will automatically adjust screen brightness to the ambient lighting conditions – something you usually find on high-end tellys from the likes of Bang & Olufsen.

There’s also a very useful automatic volume control that stops the TV blaring when the ads come on and 2 x 10-watt speakers with an in-built digital amp for when you really want to cut loose.

The 26in LC-26D44 EBK and 32in LC-32D44 EBK models are out this month and will cost £499 and £599, respectively. The 37in version is due out in July – no price yet.-Martin Lynch
