sony tiny hd camcorder.jpg Size matters in the digital world and small is what counts. Sony is claiming the tiny Full HD camcorder crown today with its pocket-sized HDR-TG1 Handycam. Didn't Sony already claim this crown last year with its Handycam HDR-CX6EK?

The HDR-TG1, which bears more than a passing resemblance Sanyo’s Xacti HD models, measures 1.3in wide by 4.7in tall by 2.5ins deep and weighs in at a bicep-friendly 10ozs. It can record 1920 x 1080 HD video and take 4MP digital photos, recorded directly to Memory Stick PRO Duo or PRO Duo Mark2 media cards.

The body of the camcorder is titanium which means it’s good for at least a medium-kicking and it comes bundled with a 4GB PRO Duo Mark2 card. It boasts a Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 10x optical zoom lens and 2MP ClearVid CMOS sensor.

The camera features face detection technology for both photos and video capture and there’s a decent 2.7in LCD display for watching what you’re filming.

Hitting the US now, it will cost $900 (around £460) but don’t expect anything that cheap when it lands here.-Martin Lynch
