iPhone Price Slashed To £78 – In Germany, Damn It April 04, 2008

iphone users.jpgT-Mobile in Germany has made just about the most dramatic iPhone-related decision since the product launched, by slashing the cost of the device to €99 (£78), down from €399.

This is either a stroke of genius or, a sign of desperation that the iPhone is not selling as well as they’d like. Between April 7 and June 30, lucky Germans will get the stylish 8GB model for £78. The catch is that they will have to opt for T-Mobile’s top iPhone contract, the 2-year Complete XL, which costs around £70 per month. Still, even regular folk get a good deal.

Those opting for the middle contract at £54 per month get the phone for £117 while those on the entry-level contract, which costs around £39 per month, can get the 8GB model for £156. In the UK, O2 recently improved it's iPhone package.

With a new, faster iPhone on the way this quarter, it looks like there’s a mad dash to clear stocks. At least in Germany.

Will it extend to the UK though?-Martin Lynch

So does this mean that we coud, in theory, buy the cheap iPhone and then jailbreak/unlock it? Or would you need to sign up for the contract in-store.

Sounds obvious to me;

Drop price of 8GB iPhones to see off stock before Apple drop that model.

16GB iPhone will then drop in price to the same as the retired 8GB, new 32GB iPhone (with 3G) released in June at the same price as what the 16GB is today.

you would have to go on a contract and sign up in store. They are trying to catch everyone out by lowering the price. It will cost you £1758 after the contract has ended. Thats just to much money. BY FAR!

'It will cost you £1758 after the contract has ended'

Where are you getting this figure from? seems a little on the large side

All the info is in the article, to get the 8GB phone at £78 you need to sign up to the 2 year Complete XL package:

24 months x £70 = £1680
+ £78 for the iPhone = £1758

Although that isn't the true cost of the phone as that price includes 2 years line rental and bundles. You can get a half decent O2 Sim only contract for £15 a month which over the same period would only cost you £360...

I m sorry but the price is only available if you sign a contract that forces you to pay 25 € every month (without data, voice and text messageing)
