Listen up runners, Nike has just added the latest toy to its range of exercise devices, the Nike+ SportBand.
The SportBand wristwatch promises to provide runners with ‘real-time performance feedback during a run, while linking them to the world’s largest running club’.
In a similar way to how the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit allows trainers to talk to the iPod nano, the wristwatch does pretty much the same job, just without needing an iPod. The band allows runners to check time, pace, distance and calories burned without stopping.
They say:
"Nike+ SportBand gives more choice and allows Nike+ to cover any running situation. It tracks your distance, calories burned and other performance information while providing a simple link to the world’s largest running club, when you choose not to or can’t run with music.”
After you’re done, you detach the LINK watch-face from the SportBand and plug it directly into your PC’s USB slot to upload the data to your training profile on nikeplus.com. Users can also link into the global Nike+ Community to track what other runners are up to.
The company also announced a new personal coaching tool, Nike+ Coach, an online training tool for all classes of runner. Beginners and intermediates are offered training regimes to achieve different distances, while experienced runners can check out new workouts.
It’s due out on April 10 but no price yet.-Martin Lynch
