wii fit2.jpg Wii Fit, the game that looks like setting a new global trend for making gamers more active, has UK buyers in a spin as Play.com reports that its pre-order allocation has been snapped up within 24 hours.

According to the online retailer, they were ‘overwhelmed’ by demand for the ‘gamercise’ bundle, which is due to launch here on April 25. Now before you start chucking your Mars bars out of the pram, the e-tailer is expecting – hoping – to get more stock before launch in a few weeks. The game has already sold more than 1.7 million copies in Japan, were there are around 5 million Wii consoles.

Play.com thinks the demand is so high because: “Longer, lighter days have helped boost pre-summer diets, especially with 95 per cent of New Years diets having failed by March.”

This could be true. It could also be true that those planning on investing in the £70 Wii Fit bundle are just looking for another piece of fitness tat to join the pile of other barely used, celebrity fitness DVDs and products lurking guiltily under the stairs.

I’d suggest turning off the technology and going for a walk but then, that’s just absurd.-Martin Lynch
