The Annoy-o-Tron is fun in the same the way that stink-bombs – remember those? – were. Fun when you threw it for about 5 seconds but then you spent the rest of the day getting punched by everyone else for doing it.

I’ve seen things like this before and this is little different. It's the latest gadget designed to confuse and then freak out your mates. It’s small, has a magnet on the back for easy positioning and a choice of 2kHz, 12kHz or alternating sounds. You place it somewhere discreet and then listen as the Annoy-o-Tron generates a short but very annoying beep every few minutes.

We've all tried the crappy 3D glasses in the cinema but now Hyundai is giving folk the chance to have the same dodgy experience in their living rooms.

Built by Hyundai – so don’t expect to see it here anytime soon – the 46in 3D stereoscopic TV is capable of showing BS11 3D broadcasts from Japan Broadcasting BS in Japan. Yes, it does sound like a bit of BS alright but it’s true.

The downside, apart from the £2,500 asking price, is that you will have to wear those big ‘My name is Michael Caine’ glasses to experience the full effect. Sexy, eh?

Rubik’s Cube Clock: ARRRGH!! April 11, 2008

I always hated the Rubik’s Cube. And yes, I was crap at it. My greatest achievement was getting two sides once and when I went to tell someone, my younger cousin got his mitts on it and destroyed the evidence.

So you can understand why the sight of this Rubik’s Cube alarm is, well, somewhat alarming. The thought of having to solve the annoying bastard first before it stops wailing in the morning just made me break out in a cold sweat.

Thankfully, at closer inspection, it’s a lot less traumatic. You still get to twist the top though, which lets you swap between the key functions like time, date, room temperature and alarm. Even I can manage that.

Yours, if you really need to relive those Rubik's moments each morning, for around £14 here.

The latest PS3 firmware update is cementing the fact that the PS3 is the most capable Blu-ray player on the market.

Firmware 2.30 is due out next week - in Japan first - and adds support for DTS-HD Master Audio and DTS-HD High Resolution Audio, bringing what DTS calls ‘studio-quality’ audio to your HD movies. This is joyous news indeed for home cinema buffs.

DTS-HD Master Audio delivers audio at a very high variable rate of 24.5Mbits per second (Mbps), which is a lot higher than found on DVDs. DTS-HD Master Audio also brings 7.1 audio channels at 96k sampling frequency/24 bit depths and there are over 100 Blu-ray movies and concert videos that feature DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks.

The insanely popular iPlayer service, which has just reported 42 million downloads and streams in the last 3 months, will be a channel on the Wii’s Internet Channel.

Once the iPlayer service for Wii is live, a message will be sent to all Wii consoles in the UK currently connected to the Internet to let them know it’s ready.

David Yarnton, General Manager, Nintendo UK, commented:

"This exciting alliance with the BBC is yet another way in which Nintendo is looking to broaden the market for its products by offering compelling and relevant content to families.”

So the question now must be, when will it be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360? Ah, there’s the glitch. The reason....
