yamaha pocketrak.jpg Announced back in January, Yamaha’s Pocketrak 2G is now shipping and promises to put a mini recording studio in your pocket.

Designed for recording bands out and about, the device comes with 2GB of storage and has long-life battery that’s good for up to 19 hours of recording. The 2GB of storage is good for up to 3 hours of CD-quality linear PCM recording or much more if you opt for some of the MP3 recording modes.

The twin mics can also be used to capture college lectures you couldn’t be arsed attending in person. It’s suitably slim and light, being only 0.5in thick and weighing just 49g.

Summer is coming and, apart from the pleasant prospect of some decent weather, we are approaching that perilous time when pale-as-death UK citizens will be disrobing to show off what 9 months of cloud cover and cold does to a body’s complexion.

Rather than risking the public beaches and the inevitable visual cortex damage I’ll be staying at home in the bath with Homer Simpson. Well, the Homer Simpson Bath Radio to be exact.

It’s waterproof, doesn’t smell as bad [probably] as the real thing and I like the idea of being able to tune in stations and control the volume using the Duff beer can on his belly. It runs off 2 AA batteries, measures 170mm(L) x 90mm (W) x 70mm (D) and, sadly, doesn’t say Doh!.

Yours here for £20.-Martin Lynch
