archos gps.jpg Archos makes some of the best portable media players (PMPs) out there and it’s aiming to cement their popularity by adding GPS sat-nav to the bundle.

The company is about to launch the GPS In-Car Holder for its Archos 605 WiFi PMP, which turns the device into a fully functional sat-nav system. Personally I think it’s a great move since I can’t bring myself to buy a dedicated sat-nav device which, even with MP3 playback, is just too limited in terms of functionality. And I don't travel much.

The GPS In-Car Holder, which uses Tele Atlas maps, suckers onto the car windshield and hooks into the stereo via Line-Out. Once you know where you’re going, your lucky passengers (not you – eyes on the road!) can use the 605 WiFi for watching recorded TV shows, movies, listening to music and, in WiFi hotspots, surfing the Internet. The 605 comes in four flavours ranging from a 4GB SD Card version to a 160GB mini-monster.

If you already own the 605 WiFi you can get the GPS In-Car Holder next month for £99 or, buy the two together for £299.-Martin Lynch
