Home cinemas are great fun and with decent projectors costing less than many LCD TVs they are very affordable now. Now BenQ is hoping to bring Full HD projectors within the reach of more consumers by launching its £1,300 W5000 and £2,500 BenQ W20000. OK, the W5000 is the really affordable one.

Both are 1080p devices, that use Texas Instruments’ 1080p DLP DarkChip 2 and DarkChip 3 chipsets, respectively. The W5000 and W20000 have brightness ratings of 1200 Lumens and contrast ratings of 10000:1 and 20000:1.

The projectors feature BenQ’s Senseye technology for improving colour reproduction, image clarity and smoothing out the ‘jaggies’ seen with motion video.

They have an operating noise level of 25dB which is pretty quiet and both come with a very handy pair of HDMI slots each so that you can hook up your games console and set-top box or HD movie player, simultaneously. Shipping now.-Martin Lynch
