Asus turned a few heads at Cebit last month when it previewed a whole raft of computing products made from bamboo and now Dell is getting in on the wooden computer act.
Asus has revealed that its innovative and planet-friendly EcoBook bamboo laptops will be with us in June, while Dell surprised everyone yesterday by announcing it will launch a tiny, bamboo PC later this year.
The so-called Asus Ecobooks will be the 12in U6 and 11in S6, boasting LED displays for conserving energy and whole host of other green touches to make them a shoe-in for a glowing Greenpeace report. Recyclable plastics are in and nasty solvents are out. They are expected to be priced – although this is in New Taiwan Dollars for now – at around £800-900. See a photo below.
Dell, in the meantime, has unveiled a tiny bamboo-clad PC that is 81% smaller than a regular PC and consumes 70% less power. The wee device is made from mostly recycled materials and was presented by Michael Dell yesterday at the Fortune Green conference. It is due out later this year and will be priced at £250-£350. -Martin Lynch

DVI out on the Dell :o)
Any word on heat dissipation? I'm not really sure of wood credentials when it comes to that kinda stuff. How about specs?
Very bizarre thing to start selling, anyway...
