Up until recently the relationship between the poker chip and the microchip was synonymous only in name, but if you’re a fan of the world’s greatest card game you might want to take a look at a new gizmo from Dane-Elec.

Fashioning a USB-drive from a poker chip might seem like a bit of a gamble, but one of the leading brands in Flash memory is betting it’ll be a success.

The ‘Poker Mate’ is almost exactly the same size as a casino-brand chip, with the flash memory part cleverly embedded inside.

Slide it out and you’ll see what USB drives look like with their clothes off – there’s a naked connector at one end that slots into a regular sized USB drive to offer instant storage.

The device is available in 1GB and 2GB capacities and comes with a five-year guarantee, though there’s no information on whether this covers losing it in a bet.

The 1GB version has an RRP of £9.99 and the 2GB comes in at £19.99, but if you’re quick you can pick one up today at 7dayshop.com for just £4.99 and £7.49 respectively. - Paul Lester

Been at PCWorlds for the past month or two. When I first saw them I thought "Hey, cool!", but it's a little on the big side as a whole, with the massive round 'cap' (the chip).

Might be fun to take it to the casino and see if it's lucky though...
