It seems like the death of HD DVD and the end of the high-def movie format war hasn’t helped Blu-ray take off like a rocket after all.
Data from NPD Data in the US – a Blu-ray stronghold during the war – shows that even though the war ended, consumers haven’t raced out to buy standalone Blu-ray players. In fact, sales of players dropped off by an alarming 40% between January and February this year and only saw a 2% rise in March. The irony is that HD DVD player sales only dropped 13% between January and February – although they’ve dropped off a cliff since. The survey excluded PS3s.

DVD upscaling and PS3 for me... PS3 for Blu and UK DVDs and multiregion upscaling DVD player for all my US DVDs!
Unlike the release of dvd, blu-ray is a HD format how many people have finished paying off there debts to buy there HD tvs...
I guess no one is stupid enough to buy a stand alone BD player when u can get a PS3 with a BD player upscaling DVD player and the option of playing games if u so choose to. Wouldn't mind knowing how well the Software is selling though. I havent bought a blu ray since the format war ended. Too expensive to justify spended that kind of cash on them. I'll keep watching planet earth, lol.
The problem to me is that blu-ray doesn't seem to have finalised the design, with the different profiles available, disc makers are going to have to support the lowest common denominator. (anyone remember MSX computers ?)
