We’ve had our fair share of ground-breaking mobile phones over the last year, not least of which was the iPhone, which is set for re-release with much vaunted 3G data and a likely overhaul.

Following a recent announcement from HTC it seems as though Apple will have quite a fight on its hands, and since we’re loathe to use the ‘K’ word (since it’s already lost all meaning in this context) we’ll settle for saying that at least on paper, it’s one of the most impressive mobiles we’ve ever seen.

The HTC Touch Diamond is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone with a 2.8” touchscreen display offering full VGA (640x480) resolution.

Nothing too impressive here you might say (if you’re an Apple fan), but throw in features like built in A-GPS that you can use with your choice of satnav software and 3.5G data allowing speeds up to 7.2MBps accompanying high upload speeds via HSUPA. There’s also built in WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, an FM radio and 3.2MP camera.

In addition to this impressive range of specifications we think it looks great as well, and being not much larger than a standard candy bar phone it won’t produce any unsightly bulges in your pocket (unless you REALLY like the design).

Orange has already announced that it'll be carrying the device, with more providers set to follow. We're expecting it to arrive in the UK in late June though there's no details on pricing just yet.

Enough talk though, take a look for yourself and prepare to be amazed.- Paul Lester

Any idea on the cost yet? and which networks it will be available on?

It will be available on orange first, then on all the other UK networks. On T-Mobile it will be from free to 99 Euro with a 2 year contract, and SIM free about £400.

Will it have the lack of drivers for video and basic hardware aceleration thehtc tyn 2 suffered from?

Go here to see it in use: http://www.youtube.com/user/HTC

doesn't seem to suffer from missing video drivers there.

Sorry if I'm being dumb but... what "the K word"?

iPhone "KILLER" is what the K refers to.
Although this is absolutely laughable!
A phone that isn't even out yet and runs on MicroCrap Mobile will "kill" the 12 month old godphone. sure.

Let's see if they still think it can compete after the June rollout.
