Let’s continue our eyewear theme for a little longer while the sun’s still out, and tell you about these ‘spy camera’ glasses that come with a built in 1.3MP digital camera.

Distinctly James Bond, and relatively slimline to boot, they’re capable of capturing photos up to 1280x1024 resolutions and include an RF remote for stealthy shooting.

If you’re a fan of those little robot dogs and other assorted Japanese innovations you might remember the Miuro, a mobile iPod dock on wheels that offered such fancy features as wireless connectivity to stream your tunes and a built in digital camera.

We wouldn’t blame you for balking at the rather extortionate $1000 price tag, but if you were intrigued by the idea you might be interested to know that it has a little baby brother on the way.

teen smokers.jpg Hi-tech is coming to cigarette machines in Japan to stop teens from puffing their way to an early grave.

A company has developed a camera and facial recognition system for the machines that will literally look for wrinkles, facial sagging and other signs of ageing before letting someone buy cigarettes. It's OK for the old to smoke because, apparently, they're screwed anyway.

There are 570,000 cigarette machines in Japan and there’s a new law on the way in July which requires that cigarette sellers do something to ensure that those buying the fags are over the age limit of 20.

The facial data gathered by Fujitaka Co's system will compare the evidence to data from over 100,000 people.

If you’re the sort of person who feels growing concern for the impact of violent video games on the youth of today,
then you’re probably not a fan of titles like Grand Theft Auto.

Everyone's heard the theory in the past, but recent research conducted by two Harvard psychologists could be the proverbial rocket-launcher that obliterates the myth.

myvu.jpg Video glasses are not new but most of them tend to be ugly as sin, making you look like Star Trek’s No. 1 convention fan at 100 paces.

Myvu has been working hard to shrink them and style them so that consumers can buy what look like a funky pair of sunglasses but with the added bonus of being able to watch movies on the inside.

These are the Crystal 701 iPod Edition glasses for use with iPods, obviously, but also capable of being used readily with any other non-iPod portable video or DVD player. They offers 640 x 480 resolution playback and provide you with the impression that you’re watching an average sized TV from around 8-feet away. The key feature are:

BlackBerry Bold Smartphone Adds Style To Performance May 12, 2008

blackberry bold.jpg BlackBerry maker, Research In Motion (RIM) has rolled out its fastest and best looking device to date, the Blackberry Bold.

Top of the list of key features is its first–time support for tri-band HSDPA high-speed networks, GPS and Wi-Fi in a single device. With a 3G iPhone coming it only makes sense. Inside, the Bold is driven by a 624MHz mobile processor – the fastest yet – combined with 1GB of memory, 128MB of Flash storage and a handy microSD/SDHC memory card slot.

There’s a 2MP camera and the display has been bumped up to a 480x320 pixel resolution for crisp video playback and Web browsing. That said, it’s not as big as the iPhone’s and not a touchscreen either, as earlier rumours optimistically claimed. RIM, however, seem to have overhauled the average/poor BlackBerry Web browser to include full desktop-style HTML. RIM has also promised a $150 million war chest for developers to build mobile apps and services [just like Apple].

dom joly.jpg We all laugh at Dom Joly roaring into his giant mobile phone but as most people will tell you, ignorant mobile phones are right up there with cockroaches and rats on the ‘Things I Hate Most’ list.

A new survey of 2,000 UK adults has revealed just how hated rude mobile phone users are. More than half of respondents said that ignorant phone users should be punished, while 1-in-10 went further by claiming they should be slapped with ASBOs.

My own solution of hanging them naked from lamp-posts by their toes and offering passers-by the chance to spank them with table tennis bats for charity and sticking the video on YouTube was not, sadly, among the key solutions offered.

Most people felt they should have a 12-month ban on using their phones in public which, to be frank, is unenforceable. Unsurprisingly, men wanted harsher punishments than women. Most respondents were also against mobile phone use being allowed on planes, which is coming sooner than you think.

The Top 5 irritating mobile phone abuses are:
