Hot on the heels of its new player, Creative has been dealt a blow in the MP3 market with news that it has been overtaken by another rival.

This time it’s Microsoft no less, with its Zune player, which recently hit two million sales giving it a 4% share of the US market.

The second generation Zune seems to have been the revision that helped it take off, with a million sales of this device alone since November last year.

If these percentages seem a little low it’ll be interesting to note that Sandisk is plying a good trade at 11% and the bulk of the rest is of course taken up by Apple, with 71% of the market.

Of course the player is only available in the good old USA, which is why you don’t hear about it over here, and rather strangely there are still no plans to release it in Europe. - Paul Lester
