Samsung is hoping to revolutionise how LCD TVs handles fast-moving video with a new technology called ‘Blue Phase’, that doubles the best image refresh rates out there now to 240Hz.
The problem with certain LCD TVs is that action sequences or sports can look can look terrible, with blurring and ghosting thanks to slow – or badly implemented - image refresh rate technology. Early 50Hz LCD TVs were truly awful and even many of today’s 100Hz TVs suffer when it comes to handling fast-moving video. The top sets out there now offer 120Hz refreshing but Samsung has just showed off a new TV with a staggering refresh rate of 240Hz.

Games studio Rockstar must be feeling what it’s like to pull off a big bank job and get away with it as gangster game, Grand Theft Auto IV (GTA IV) continues to smash records and rake in the cash.
The highly recommended game, which went on sale just two weeks ago, has just sold over 1 million copies in the UK and, on an even bigger scale, GTA IV has blown away the Guinness Book Of Records 1-day sales record by flogging 3.6 million units and earning $310 million (£155m). It also nabbed the Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in 24 Hours record, making the game the most profitable entertainment release of all-time – that includes other video games, movies and book releases.

When it comes to LCD displays we all tend to think in squares and rectangles because that’s the shape of nearly every HDTV and monitor out there. There are some companies though that want us to think ‘round’.
LG has just unveiled what it claims is the world’s largest 6in elliptical and 1.4in circular-shaped LCDs. OK, you won’t be watching movies on these babies anytime soon but then again that’s not what they are for – at least for now.
The 6in elliptical LCD measures 78.8mm high by 131.4mm wide, while the 1.4in circular LCD measures tot 35.5mm in diameter. Both of them are capable of displaying up to 262,000 colours and have a near-160 degree viewing angle. So, what are they good for?

The Japanese [who else?] arm of the well-known lingerie company has just previewed this matching bra and panties in Japan, which boasts a massive solar panel on the front and the ability to keep breasts warm for hours. The bra-padding gel-packs can be heated in the microwave and will keep those puppies cosy, regardless of the climate.
