Golf might be one of the world’s favourite pastimes but I’d like you to meet something that’s set to become the golfer’s best friend, apart from the 19th hole, that is.

This is the Shadow Caddy, a fully-automated caddy that carries your clubs and follows you around the golf course without all that pulling nonsense. Hell, if golf gets any easier, soon you won’t even have to swing the damn club yourself.

Developed by ‘mad keen golfer’, Hubert Novak, the Shadow Caddy works by tracking a transmitter you wear through a batch of onboard chips, which in turn control the motor and steering. The makers say:

“It is 100% hands free! No remote control no hands-on at all. You simply clip on a transmitter and “Just Play” The Shadow Caddy allows you to focus on your golf and not on where your clubs are going or how fast they are moving. Try a Shadow Caddy next time you play golf, and experience the ease and fun of having a caddy follow you with your club.”

The caddy is being trialled at numerous Australian golf courses now where lazy golfers can rent one for $10 a pop. The end is nigh for human caddies, unless of course you're one of those snobby, cranky golfers that likes shouting at teenagers.-Martin Lynch
