evolta.jpgNot every AA battery is created equal and, if you want your robot to climb the Grand Canyon, you better make sure it’s not using those cheap, white-labelled ones from the supermarket.

This is the Evolta Robot, mascot for Panasonic’s Evolta series of extra-long life AA alkaline batteries, who just managed to rope-climb a 530-metre cliff in the Grand Canyon this week. And he did it with just two Evolta AA batteries onboard.

The long journey up the cliff face took a gruelling 6 hours and 45 minutes but the little chap made it with energy to spare. It makes a welcome change from that annoying drum-banging, Duracell bunny.

The Evolta batteries already hold the record for the longest lasting AA batteries the Guinness Book Of Records but, before you start adding them to your shopping list, they’re only available in Japan for now. Now there’s a surprise.-Martin Lynch
