It’s rumour time on Gizmodo as we’ve been hearing reports of a Wii style controller that’s being developed for use with the PS3.

There have already been talks of an Xbox-oriented device, so it’s logical that Sony won’t want to be left out.

The control system is by far the most unique aspect of the popular console, which has seen sterling success in the light of strong competition despite the fact that it has inferior graphics and in most cases less involving gameplay.

It’s pretty logical that stealing some of Nintendo’s thunder will have to involve emulating the motion controls, so we’d be very surprised if this doesn’t actually happen for both the 360 and PS3.

Playstation Lifestyle is behind the news, reporting on a focus group of Playstation users gathering in California to test a ‘new product currently in development’. Turns out this was a Wii style remote, which is currently being labelled as the ‘PS3mote’ or ‘Waggle’.

As usual, neither Sony or Microsoft has anything to say on this matter, but we’ll keep you posted if we hear anything more. – Paul Lester

While I think there's not much to lose for Sony and Micrsofot to develop Wii-like controllers, I don't think it will give them much competetive advantage. The controller on the Wii works well with their simple games. And those two elements have led to it being a massive success -- games are easy to get into, and fun for multiple members of the family. Things like Wii fit expertly tap into the home market too. Whereas a Wii-like controller and Halo, well it's not going to work that well.

Dont Nintendo have some sort of copyright against this happening.

I really dont think its a good thing that Microsoft and Sony are so blatantly sucking off Nintendo's success.

Surely Microsoft and Sony would to develop some sort of compatible sensor bar.
