Holy Batpod: Batman's New Motorbike Comes To Silverstone July 6, 2008

batpod.jpgToday, the British F1 Grand Prix takes place at Silverstone but before those flimsy little rockets get to do their thing, the track played host to some different automotive beasts earlier in the week: Batman's new toys.

The Batmobile and the new, and very cool - not to mention fully-working - Batpod were on hand for a few laps with Toyota F1 drivers Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock lucky enough to mess around with the beasties. Well, the Batmobile was driven but not the Batpod since it isn't exactly driven like your regular bike. After all, how do you unleash cannons, grappling hooks and missile carnage on the baddies if you have to steer the bike at the same time?

The Batpod overcomes the problem by allowing the driver to steer with the shoulders, allowing the hands to aim and operate the good stuff.

The engines are situated in the the hubs of those big fat 20in wheels. The F1 drivers weren't allowed to ride it though - that particular pleasure is left to Christian Bale's stuntman, Jean-Pierre Goy. Lucky bastard.

The Batpod will scream into action on our screens in the next few weeks. More shots below.-Martin Lynch

This would be so cool if they actually had the bat mobile in the race :D it wouldn't be as fast, but all it has to do is drive through the other cars...track... people and head for the finish
