rgb lamp.jpg There's any number of LED lamps out there, from the ones with gentle and soothing mood lights to those firing out insane, epileptic fit-inducing strobing. But I've not seen any that can mimic the colour of the surface they are sitting on.

Created by designers Makoto Hirahara and Shinya Matsuyama, who have already created a RGBy tabletop, this little 2.5in LED lamp sports three Red, Green & Blue lights and operates like a one-pixel camera.

You press the top and the LEDs measure the amount of reflected light from the surface it's on to gauge what the colour is.

They then change their intensity to recreate that light on the top. It's certainly a clever idea and in true gadget fashion, largely useless, but if you want one you'll have to dig deep as these little chameleon lamps will set you back a cool £100 each here.
