If you're in the market for a Freeview PVR that'll allow you to watch, time-shift and record programmes much like Sky+ then your first port of call should be Humax.

Over the last couple of years it has consistently produced the best performing PVRs outside of Sky's own range and is now set for an update with the new PVR-9300.

It offers the same twin tuner functionality of the previous model, namely you'll be able to record up to two channels while watching another one (though without being able to time-shift it).

The new model has undergone a bit of a makeover as well and is far more stylish than previous efforts and includes an HDMI port for easy wiring. This also allows it to allegedly upscale content to 720p, and while unlikely to genuinely rival more dedicated HD solutions it should freshen things up a bit for those with larger TVs.

There's 320GB of internal storage for around 200 hours of recorded TV, and this model should be available for around £200 from the 1st of August. If you don't need this much room, a 150GB alternative called the PVR-9150 shaves £50 off the retail price. - Paul Lester

9300t seems to be the same as the 9200t just new casing/larger drive/hdmi.

Again though, not really news - humax announced this unit some time ago.

Ooh nice. Be careful what you say there, the Sky HD box has more bugs then the Amazon rainforrest and huge UI lag.

I to have the Humax PVR 9200T and its been a god send for recording 'Mister Maker' Big cook, little cook' 'In the night garden' etc for our 2 year old. Hopefully this new model will allow for better connectivity to a PC than the 9200T

I have a Humax PVR 8000T, it regularly hangs on boot, often forgets all it's listings, periodically refuses to record new programmes unless you reformat the hard disc and has a fantastically illogical menu system. That said, it was the best of a bad bunch when I got it, the Sagem I tried kept crashing and the Thomson has fans modelled on the engines of a 747! Can't wait for the Humax Freesat PVR.

I have a Humax PVR 9200T too - bought it a year ago and I just don't know how we used to manage without it! Twin tuners mean that you can record one programme while watching another one - or even sometimes (depending on the way the channels are grouped) record two programmes AND watch a third. Great piece of kit.

At £200 the 9300T seems expensive just for a bigger HD and so-called HDMI upscaling. The USB doesn't do anything!!

Humax have missed some opportunities to resolve file transfer issues to/from PC.

I am 99% happy with the 9200T at the moment so I'll give it a miss for now.
